Creative Feltmaking and Wellbeing Retreat

CREATE. RESTORE. CONNECT.

Step away from everyday life and join us for seven days of creativity and wellbeing on the Northumberland coast.

Inspired by the Triskele—an ancient symbol of movement, transformation and the power of three—the retreat reflects the Celtic and spiritual heritage of Northumberland and nearby Holy Island. Through feltmaking, colour and reflection, you will create a meaningful garment while finding time to restore, reconnect and move forward.

A Day to Restore and Prepare

Monday is our wellbeing and creative preparation day—a gentle bridge between arriving and beginning four creative studio days. After breakfast, we will explore the Triskele, the power of three, garment design and colour planning. You will begin developing your ideas and preparing for the creative days ahead. Each participant will receive one individual wellbeing treatment. You will also have access to the hot tub and time to rest, walk, reflect or simply enjoy the house. This day is about focusing on you. It is an opportunity to slow down, listen to your creative instinct and arrive in the studio with a clear and meaningful direction. We are planning a relaxing evening with dinner at a local pub to round off our day.

Create Your Own Nuno-Felted Kimono or Tunic

Across four immersive studio days, you will design and create your own lightweight summer kimono or tunic using fine merino wool, Margilan gauze silk and prefelt. You will learn how to create a pattern based on your own measurements and choose either a straight or an A-line garment shape. Your design will be completely individual. We will explore spirals and the Triskele, adapting their lines, movement and proportions to create a garment that belongs uniquely to you. You will also select three colours that reflect your life, your experiences or something you would like to invite into your future. Your colours may move gently into one another to create a harmonious and expressive transition. Lena will help you develop a balanced palette and dye progression. For example, Lena’s featured kimono moves through purple, magenta and red: Purple represents intuition, imagination and inner wisdom. Magenta represents transformation, compassion and emotional balance. Red represents life, courage, strength and renewed energy. You may choose colours with a personal meaning or simply work with colours that make you feel happy and inspired. Lena will guide you through the complete process, including: Developing your garment design Taking measurements Creating an individual garment pattern Choosing a straight or A-line silhouette Planning your Triskele and spiral-inspired motifs Selecting a meaningful three-colour palette Preparing and positioning the silk and prefelt Constructing and felting the separate garment pieces Refining the shape and fit Dyeing and finishing your completed garment All materials required to make one kimono or tunic are included. You will also have access to the specialist tools and equipment needed for the project.

Four Creative Days in the Studio

Our classes will take place in a spacious, modern studio within Blyth Market Pavilion, part of the town’s new cinema, arts and community venue.

The bright room provides plenty of space for designing, laying out, felting and completing a large garment without rushing.

Studio sessions will run from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm, Tuesday to Friday, with lunch served at 1.00 pm.

The pace will be focused but supportive, with breaks and individual guidance throughout each day.

A Journey to Holy Island of Lindisfarne

On Saturday, we will travel together to the extraordinary Holy Island of Lindisfarne, one of Northumberland’s most atmospheric coastal and historic destinations. Reached by a tidal causeway, Holy Island is known for its dramatic landscape, spiritual history and connection to early Christianity. We will have time to explore the island, enjoy its coastal views and discover its historic landmarks. We will explore Lindisfarne Priory, the village, harbour and views of Lindisfarne Castle. The retreat’s Triskele theme connects naturally with the island’s atmosphere of movement, reflection, history and renewal. Our travel times will be carefully planned around the tide, as the island’s causeway is covered by the sea twice each day. Transport, lunch and the activities identified in the final retreat itinerary are included in your retreat price.

Your Home for the Week

We will stay in a characterful Victorian house built for a local wine merchant during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Located only a few minutes from the sea, the house offers generous communal spaces, comfortable bedrooms and peaceful places to relax after our creative days.

All guests will have access to the living rooms, dining room, games room, gardens and hot tub.
